08/17/2016 - A Message from the Superintendent Regarding Water Quality Testing

Dear SSFUSD Community,

Welcome back to the start of another wonderful year! I would like to take this opportunity to provide a brief update regarding an essential service to our school facilities.

One of our highest priorities, as a district, is maintaining safe and healthy learning environments.  As you may already know, the issue of water quality in public facilities has been receiving recent attention nationwide. In light of this, and to be proactive about water safety, school districts in San Mateo County will be conducting water quality testing this fall.

While we have no reason to believe any sampling locations will exceed thresholds set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), we want to be sure our water is safe now and in the future. Our school district will be working with our local water agencies, Westborough Water District, City of Daly City Department of Water and Wastewater Resources, and California Water Services, to conduct this testing.   We will keep you informed of our progress along the way.

This process also serves as a valuable reminder that schools aren't the only places where students drink water. As we go through the testing at our school sites, we hope you will consider taking steps to ensure the safety of your water at home. The EPA has valuable guidance on identifying and fixing any potential hazards, which you can access at https://www.epa.gov/lead/protect-your-family-exposures-lead#homeleadsafe

Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns about the work going on at your school. We're looking forward to a fantastic year!

Sincerely,

Shawnterra Moore, Ed.D.

Superintendent
