Dear SSFUSD Community,
We’ve reached the Thanksgiving holiday, and it is important to celebrate all the positive things we’ve done to get to this point. This is the season of gratitude and I’m grateful for the good fortune of health, family and friends. However, I am especially grateful to be a part of our incredible community and want to express my sincere thanks to all of you.
This school year and the previous one have been quite challenging, to say the least, but I am proud of the way we have come together during these uncertain times. We truly value the partnerships and relationships we have built with our families and students. We always strive to engage with you in ways that are professional, meaningful, and helpful, because we recognize that we can only be successful in educating our students when we have the support of our families. We also recognize that returning to in-person learning after 15 months of distance learning has been an adjustment, but your support has made the transition more seamless.
As always, the Thanksgiving holiday brings opportunities to connect with loved ones whom we may not have seen in a while. For so many of our hard-working faculty, staff and administrators, this time is a welcomed break! However, our district will continue to focus on the safety and well-being of our students and staff as long as the coronavirus continues to impact our ability to educate and support our families in the ways we are used to. That is why we must continue to take every precaution to protect the health of our families, our community and ourselves.
Please be conscientious and mindful if you are traveling this Thanksgiving holiday. If you haven’t done so already, we strongly encourage you to get vaccinated against COVID-19. To keep you and others safe, please wash your hands regularly, wear a face covering, maintain a safe distance from others, and try to limit your participation in large public gatherings and settings when possible. To reduce the spread of COVID-19, stay home if you are not feeling well or have COVID-19 symptoms.
Please also prepare to update your children’s vaccination records after the Thanksgiving holiday. With the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) approval of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for children between 5-11 years of age and Governor Newsom’s plan to require all California students to be vaccinated in order to attend school, our district will soon begin asking parents to submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
If your child has already been vaccinated, please send a copy of their vaccination card to the school they are attending for inclusion in their immunization record. If your child has not been vaccinated against COVID-19 yet, please make plans to do so. Multiple pathways are available through your health care provider or pediatrician, through CVS and Rite Aid pharmacies, California's My Turn effort, and the San Mateo County Health Department.
In the meantime, thank you again for your support, patience, partnership, and for doing your part to keep our schools and community safe. Despite the many challenges, worries and frustrations, we are in this together, and we will continue to work together and move forward together. Lastly, as a reminder, schools will be closed from November 24-November 26.We look forward to welcoming our students back on Monday, November 29, 2021. I truly hope you enjoy and have a wonderful, peaceful, gratitude-filled Thanksgiving holiday.

Hemos llegado a la fiesta de Acción de Gracias, y es importante celebrar todas las cosas positivas que hemos hecho para llegar a este punto. Esta es la estación de gratitud y estoy agradecida por la buena fortuna de la salud, la familia y los amigos. Sin embargo, estoy especialmente agradecido de ser parte de nuestra increíble comunidad y quiero expresar mi sincero agradecimiento a todos ustedes.
Este año escolar y el anterior han sido bastante desafiantes, pero estoy orgullosa de la manera en que hemos apoyado a unos a otros durante estos tiempos inciertos. Valoramos verdaderamente las relaciones con nuestras familias y estudiantes. Siempre tratamos de comunicar con ustedes en maneras profesionales, significativas y útiles, porque reconocemos que sólo podemos tener éxito en educar a nuestros estudiantes cuando tenemos el apoyo de nuestras familias. También reconocemos que regresar a las escuelas después de 15 meses de aprendizaje a distancia ha sido un ajuste, pero su apoyo ha hecho que la transición sea más fluida.
Como siempre, el Día de Acción de Gracias trae oportunidades para conectar con seres queridos a los que no hemos visto por un tiempo largo. ¡Este tiempo es un descanso bienvenido para tantos de nuestros maestros, empleados y administradores que han trabajado duro! Sin embargo, nuestro distrito seguirá enfocándose en la seguridad y el bienestar de nuestros estudiantes y empleados mientras el coronavirus está impactando nuestra capacidad de educar y apoyar a nuestras familias en las formas que estámos acostumbradas. Por eso, debemos seguir tomando todas las precauciones para proteger la salud de nuestras familias, nuestra comunidad y nosotros mismos.
Por favor, sea conciente si viaja estas vacaciones de Acción de Gracias. Si aún no lo ha hecho, le recomendamos encarecidamente que se vacune contra COVID-19. Para mantenerse a salvo, por favor lávese las manos regularmente, use una máscara, mantenga una distancia de los demás, y trate de limitar su participación en grandes reuniones públicas y entornos cuando sea posible. Para reducir la propagación de COVID-19, quédese en casa si no se siente bien o tiene síntomas de COVID-19.
Por favor, prepárese también para actualizar los registros de vacunación de sus hijos después del Día de Acción de Gracias. Con la aprobación de la Administración de Alimentos y Medicamentos (FDA) de la vacuna de Pfizer para niños entre 5-11 años de edad y el plan del Gobernador Newsom de requerir que todos los estudiantes de California sean vacunados para asistir a la escuela, nuestro distrito pronto comenzará a pedir a los padres que presenten prueba de la vacuna contra COVID-19 de sus hijos.
