SSFHS Students Score Science Internship at Stanford

As part of the Raising Interest in Science and Engineering (RISE) internship program at Stanford University, South San Francisco High School seniors Jason Corona, Queenie Lam, and Christopher Leong earned $2,500 each this past summer developing technology for use in autonomous vehicles, learning how to genetically engineer plants, and figuring out how to remove methane gas from waste water.
 
While at Stanford, Jason, Queenie, and Christopher worked in a research lab for 30 hours a week from June to August and also participated in a variety of lectures and field trips.

The RISE internship is designed for high achieving students 16-years-of-age or older who may be the first in their family to attend college and who are interested in science, engineering, math, computer science, or psychology. Applicants must be nominated by their teacher, counselor, or principal.
