Dear SSFUSD Community,
Cicero said, “A thankful heart is not only the greatest virtue, but the parent of all other virtues.” It is a privilege for me to prioritize a letter expressing my gratitude and thanks to our community and acknowledge our tremendous staff!
As the New Year arrived, so did the severe stormy weather, which resulted in some roof leaks, flooding, and downed trees but due to preventative and proactive measures, the impact was not catastrophic. Thanks to the heroic efforts of our wonderful facilities department, who were responsive, effective, and dedicated, our schools are up and running, and our students are learning. It truly feels like the start of a new year again!
Our facilities and custodial staff aren't as easily visible as some of our other employees, and so, if you are able, I know that they would appreciate it if you could work with your children to write some positive notes of thanks and gratitude to acknowledge their contributions to our district. Meanwhile, I have some other exciting news concerning our schools and employees that I would like to share.
Tentative Agreement with Teachers
Our district recently reached a new tentative agreement with the South San Francisco Classroom Teachers Association (SSFCTA) on employee salary raises for the current and next two years that we hope will help ease some of the anxiety about inflation felt by many of our teachers. The new agreement with SSFCTA was approved by the school board at the December 15 meeting. We are looking forward to reaching agreements with our other bargaining groups as well! I am very thankful for the collaborative relationships we have established with our bargaining units and employees. Please visit our website to learn more about the details of this agreement:
California Distinguished Schools
California’s Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond recently conferred the title of "California Distinguished School" on Buri Buri and Monte Verde Elementary Schools. This was the second such recognition for these two schools, which had both previously won the award in 2010. Congratulations to the students and staff at both of these schools for achieving such an amazing honor!
According to the California Department of Education (CDE), the award for 2023 recognizes the "hard work, dedication, and resilience shown by educators and schools across the state after communities struggled for multiple years with urgent effects to physical and mental health and unprecedented challenges to delivering education."
SSFHS AP Diversity Award
The College Board, which administers Advanced Placement (AP) and other standardized tests used by college admission officers, has awarded South San Francisco High School with an AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award for 2022. The award recognizes the school's efforts to engage more female students in computer science during the 2021-22 school year and its success in expanding access to the AP Computer Science A (AP CSA) course specifically. We are so very proud of our staff and students at SSFHS, and we offer a heartfelt congratulations for diversifying and supporting more female students in AP courses! Keep up the great work!
Our community is a special, unique, incredible, and compassionate place because of all the people it is comprised of. Henry Ford said, “Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working together is success.” SSFUSD couldn’t accomplish all that we have and all we aspire to achieve without your support, your engagement, and your partnership. Acuerdo Tentativo con Maestros
Nuestro distrito recientemente llegó a un nuevo acuerdo tentativo con la Asociación de Maestros de Aula de South San Francisco (SSFCTA) sobre los aumentos salariales de los empleados para este año y los dos próximos que esperamos ayude a aliviar la ansiedad sobre la inflación que sienten muchos de nuestros maestros. Escuelas Distinguidas de California
