South City High Drama Takes the Show on the Road

South City High drama students read and performed three Halloween-themed stories for students at Los Cerritos and Ponderosa Elementary Schools on October 30 and 31:

•    Dav Pilkey’s “Hallo-Wiener;”
•    Amanda Noll’s “I Need My Monster;” and
•    Aaron Shepard’s “The Boy Who Wanted the Willies.”

The idea for this new tradition was Lesley Ruzon’s, South San Francisco High School’s new drama and dance teacher.

“It’s just a fun way to get our kids in front of an audience,” said Ruzon. “Drama is a performing art, so they can actually get out and perform.”

She said she presented her drama students with seven different stories and asked them to choose the ones they wanted to share with the elementary schools after a read-through.

Ruzon has performed in various shows in the South Bay over the years and even owned her own dance studio at one time.

She said she plans to increase the number of opportunities for her students to perform by showcasing their talents at the district’s elementary and middle schools.

Ruzon joined South City High this year after several years at Moreland School District in San Jose, where she taught math and drama.
