Dear SSFUSD Community,
As a result of the strong winds and severe weather conditions over the weekend, we are continuing to experience an extended power outage at Monte Verde Elementary. Continued rain throughout the day has also exacerbated the impact of these weather conditions. PG&E continues to assess the situation, and are working to restore power as soon as possible.
Based upon new information from PG&E, the power outage at these school sites is anticipated to be resolved by this evening. However, there is a possibility that the outage may continue through tomorrow, February 6th.
Schools will continue to be in session and will be open for instruction as regularly scheduled. We will also continue to make adjustments as necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of our students and staff.
As a reminder, our procedures and suggestions will be as follows:
• Should we determine the need for school closures during the school day tomorrow as a result of the extended outage, we will provide a subsequent update.
• Restrooms are not dependent on electricity, and staff have plans in place for not having power (such as alternatives for classroom illumination, etc.).
• We will continue to provide meals through our district nutrition program.
• We encourage students to be dressed warmly in layered clothing, as our heating system is dependent upon power.
• If you are depending on public transportation, please check with SamTrans and BART to ensure they are operating buses and trains on scheduled routes.
• Please remember to consider the possibility of traffic delays, so it is recommended that you leave home earlier than usual to get to school on time.
• Please also plan extra time into your afternoon so that you can pick up your child on time. If there are any changes to pick up locations, in the event of obstructed roads, we will attempt to notify you as soon as we receive that information.
• If you feel the need to pick your child up during the school day, please use the procedures in place at the school site - check in with the office to sign your child out of school.
• Parents/guardians may also choose to keep their students at home. Absences for this reason will be excused.
Should we receive any additional information, we will be sure to notify you as soon as we are able.
