Welcome to SSFUSD Special Education

At South San Francisco Unified School District, we are committed to providing inclusive, equitable, and high-quality education for all students. Our Special Education Department partners with families to support students with disabilities from birth through age 22, ensuring they receive the services and support they need to thrive.

We are dedicated to working collaboratively with families to ensure every student receives the support they need to succeed.

Understanding IDEA: Your Child’s Educational Rights

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is a federal law that guarantees eligible children with disabilities the right to a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE). This includes:

  • Special Education Services for children and youth (ages 3 to 21)

  • Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to each student’s unique needs

For more information on IDEA and parent rights, visit the SMCOE SELPA, CA Department of Education, and the U.S. Department of Education's IDEA resource pages (see links on this page).
