Transfers

General Information

Application forms can be submitted online during the filing period. See more information about transfer types below.
 
NOTE: SSFUSD cannot accept faxed application forms or photos of applications.
 
  • Parents applying for Transitional Kindergarten, please complete the application available on the Transitional Kindergarten page. 

  • Transfer applications will not be accepted after the close of the filing period. See specific filing dates below.

  • Approvals are based on space availability with priority based on school board policy.

  • Registration in an afterschool program at the school requested does not give priority for transfer approvals.

  • There are no updates regarding waitlists except to offer placement. Please do not call regarding the waitlist.

  • Waitlists generally close on or around September 1 and do not carry over from year to year.
 
 

Open Enrollment Transfers (for school to school transfers within the district) 

Open Enrollment Transfer applications are no longer available for the 2024-25 school year.
Transfers are now being processed and decisions are made in May and June (Kindergarten)
 
Results will go out by USPS mail
 
 
 
2024-2025 School Year (applications available February 1 to  April 15, 2024)
 
  • New students must first register at their assigned school of residence. Please provide your 4 or 5-digit online registration number on your transfer application.

  • Have you moved? Update your address before submitting a transfer request: Residency Affidavit and Instructions

  • Continuing students may use this application to renew a temporary transfer from a previous year.

  • Transfer decisions are determined by space availability, and are not first-come, first-serve.

  • If more transfer requests are received than space available, a random, unbiased lottery will be used.

  • Late applications will not be accepted.

  1. Contact your district of residence to apply for an
    inter-district transfer permit or release.

  2. An approved release for the 2024-25 school year must be received by SSFUSD from your district of residence no later than February 29, 2024
 
SSFUSD is no longer accepting new incoming transfer requests for the
2024-25 school year.
 
If you are a current student who has recently moved out of SSFUSD, please contact Student Services for help.
 
 
  1. Submit an inter-district transfer permit to SSFUSD.

  2. Parents who work in the requested district area must attach verification of employment.

  3. Attach most recent individualized education program (IEP), if student is receiving special education or speech therapy services.

  4. Submit only one form per district requested. If requesting multiple schools in the same district use the attachment button to add a letter indicating the schools in order of preference
  • Late applications will not be accepted.
 
  • Approved release agreement from former school or school district of residence does not guarantee or imply transfer approval by SSFUSD, which is not responsible for misinformation disseminated by other districts.
 
 
 
 
  • Inter-district transfer requests are generally processed within one to two weeks of filing and sent on to the requested district for final decisions.

 
  • The requested district will communicate with parents via mail or e-mail to communicate transfer approvals.

 
  • Check with the requested district for application deadlines or other requirements.

  • January 1 - February 29, 2024 (for the 2024-25 school year)
 
  • SSFUSD is no longer accepting new requests for the 2023-24 school year.
