Transfers

General Information

Application forms can be submitted in three (3) ways: 
  1. In person at the district office at 398 B Street in South San Francisco;

  2. By e-mail to transfers[at]ssfusd.org (attach a signed, scanned PDF copy of the form; no photos accepted);

  3. By mail (postmarked by deadline).
NOTE: SSFUSD does NOT accept faxed application forms or photos of applications.
 
  • Transfer requests are NOT available for transitional kindergarten.

  • Transfer applications will NOT be accepted after the close of the filing period (application has specific dates).

  • Approvals are based on space availability with priority based on school board policy.

  • Afterschool program placements do NOT affect transfer approvals.

  • There are no updates regarding waitlists except to offer placement. Please do not call regarding the waitlist.

  • Waitlists do NOT carry over from year to year.
2023-24 School Year (applications available February 1 to  April 15)
 
  • New students must register at their assigned school of residence. Attach proof of registration to your transfer application.

  • Recently moved? Update your address before submitting a transfer request: Residency Affidavit and Instructions

  • Continuing students may use this application to renew a temporary transfer from a previous year.

  • Transfer decisions are determined by space availability, and are NOT first-come, first-serve.

  • If more transfer requests are received than space available, a random, unbiased lottery will be used.

  • Late applications will NOT be accepted.
Transferring to SSFUSD (non-residents)  Requesting a School Outside of SSFUSD

  • Applications for next school year are available in early January.
  1. Contact your district of residence to apply for an
    inter-district transfer permit or release.

  2. An approved release for the 2023-24 school year must be received by SSFUSD no later than February 28. 
 
 
 
 
  1. Submit an inter-district transfer permit to SSFUSD.

  2. Parents who work in the requested district area must attach verification of employment.

  3. Attach most recent individualized education program (IEP), if student is receiving special education or speech therapy services.
 
  • Late applications will NOT be accepted. SSFUSD is no longer accepting new requests for 2022-23.

  • Approved release agreement from former school or school district of residence does NOT guarantee or imply transfer approval by SSFUSD, which is not responsible for misinformation disseminated by other districts.
 
  • Inter-district transfer requests are generally processed within one to two weeks of filing and sent on to the requested district for final decisions.

  • The requested district will communicate with parents via mail or e-mail to communicate transfer approvals.

  • Check with the requested district for application deadlines or other requirements.
