Facilities Department

The Facilities Department is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of SSFUSD's buildings and grounds. Our goal is simple: to ensure that every student, staff member, and visitor has a safe, clean, and welcoming environment in which to learn and work.

Our team includes maintenance technicians, custodians, and grounds crew working across all district sites every day. Maintenance staff keep building systems running smoothly and respond to work orders from schools. Custodians are based at their assigned schools and work closely with principals to keep campuses clean and functional. Grounds crews maintain athletic fields, landscaping, and irrigation systems.

Beyond day-to-day operations, our department oversees a wide range of responsibilities that keep our schools safe, compliant, and built for the future, including managing capital improvement projects, ensuring all facilities meet state design and construction standards established by the Division of the State Architect (DSA), and coordinating required safety testing for systems such as fire and life safety, elevators, wheelchair lifts, and hazardous materials.

We also manage facility rentals at various school sites, collect developer fees, and lead the development of the District Master Plan and District Standards — the long-range blueprint that guides how our facilities are designed, maintained, and improved over time.
