What is an Inter-District Transfer?

An Inter-District Transfer (IDT) allows a student to attend a school outside of their district of residence.

Request to Attend a School Outside SSFUSD

Families requesting to attend a school in another district must submit an Inter-District Transfer Permit (IDT) each year.

  • Applications are typically available beginning in January
  • Check the requested district’s website for deadlines

Important Reminders

  • New students should enroll in your school of residence while waiting for a decision

  • Once enrolled SSFUSD, you may also apply for an Open Enrollment transfer within SSFUSD (Feb 1 – April 15)

Request to Attend a School in SSFUSD

Important Update

SSFUSD is no longer accepting new IDT requests for the 2026–2027 school year

  • Requests submitted to your district of residence by February 28 will still be considered
  • Decision letters begin going out April 1, 2026

Who Should Apply?

  • Students living outside SSFUSD

  • Students who recently moved out of SSFUSD but want to remain enrolled

How to Apply

Important Reminders

  • Transfers must be renewed annually by February 28

  • Families approved for employment reasons (Allen Bill) require an annual employment verification update. 

  • Transfers may be revoked due to:

    • Attendance issues

    • Behavior/discipline

    • Failing grades

  • Students in grades 11–12 in good standing may continue

  • New applicants should enroll in your district of residence while waiting for a decision
