Understanding CAASPP

California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP)

State Superintendent of Public Education Tom Torlakson, released the results from the Spring 2015 California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP).

The results of new online assessments administered to about 3.2 million students last spring will gauge their progress in learning new, more rigorous academic standards designed to prepare them for college and careers in the 21st century.

Because 2015 is the first year of the new tests and because they are substantially different from their predecessors, Torlakson said the CAASPP results will serve as a baseline from which to measure future progress and should not be compared to results from the state's previous assessments, the Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR).

The South San Francisco Unified School District staff and I are pleased by the effort made by students and staff in the first computer-adapted exams taken by our students.

While we have areas to work on as a district, the scores show the hard work by our staff and students in the transition to a new way of teaching and assessing. They are acknowledged and recognized for their perseverance and diligence to reach and teach all of our students on these new rigorous standards.

The results of these specific tests for your students will be mailed out once we receive them. The scores you will receive will tell you how your child performed on the newly adopted, more challenging Common Core State Standards in both English Language Arts and mathematics.

You will receive an individualized report called a Student Score Report. A Student Score Report shows you what you can expect your child's report to look like and the information it will include.
