Superintendent Dr. Moore

Dr. Shawnterra Moore

Dr. Moore is entering her 19th year as an educator, the last three she’s served as the Superintendent of Schools. Prior to that she served as a Director and Associate Superintendent in the District. Before coming to the South San Francisco Unified School District, Dr. Moore served in a variety of administrative and teaching assignments, including as a high school principal, assistant principal and English teacher. Dr. Moore comes from a family of educators and she has appreciated and thoroughly enjoyed the various roles she has held.

Dr. Moore is passionate about her family, her faith, and her love for educating and engaging students in unique and innovative ways. She focused her dissertation on disenfranchised youth and creating spaces for their voices to be integrally involved in their learning and schooling experiences. As the Superintendent, she has engaged students each year with interviews, surveys, and videos to illicit their feedback and involvement! She has a deep commitment to equity and social justice, and is dogmatic in her belief that all people- students and adults are capable of excellence and that it is our job, both within the District but society as a whole, to identify, nurture, lead, and support one another in the journey to becoming the most effective person and employee that we can become! She highly values relationships and works to instill the same core belief in others.

Dr. Moore earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Santa Clara University. She holds a Master of Arts degree in Educational Leadership and a Doctorate of Educational Psychology degree, both from the University of the Pacific.
