Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)
Dear SSFUSD Parent Community,
As you are likely aware, President Trump has rescinded the 2012 federal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.
As a result, we realize this has generated fear and confusion among students, their families, and other constituents in South San Francisco Unified. In response, the South San Francisco Unified School District has reconfirmed its commitment to supporting these students, their families, and the schools and districts that serve them.
We realize many of our students were brought to this country as young children and although being undocumented, they have grown up in the United States and have acclimated and performed well in our schools and are well-adjusted in our community. We are proud and support the strides our undocumented students in SSFUSD have made.
In January, 2017 our Board of Trustees approved a Resolution No. 17-01 Supporting Undocumented Students and Families; this support continues. The resolution is located on the website below this letter. Additionally, the Board of Trustees will discuss another resolution that specifically communicates our support of undocumented students and their families particularly focused on DACA.

California State Superintendent Tom Torlakson reacted to the suspension of DACA by denouncing the end of the Federal Dream Act.
In addition, the US Citizenship and Immigration Services issued answers to many frequently asked questions about immigrants' rights and DACA in this FAQ document for students, educators, and social services providers. Here is also a Fact Sheet for your information.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me, a teacher, principal or staff member at your child’s school.
The SSFUSD Educational Services department is also working on communication and resources for our families and they will be working with sites to provide resources and support.

Respetuosamente,
Dr. Shawnterra Moore
Superintendente
