Instructional Materials

curriculum adoption processSouth San Francisco Unified School District's (SSFUSD) curriculum review process follows the state's adoption process for curriculum and textbooks. When new standards are adopted by the state, they are reviewed by SSFUSD teachers and administrators and discussed with the public.

Teachers and administrators review the standards collaboratively at individual schools and during meetings where multiple curricula involving two or more schools are discussed.

Public discussions related to curricula are primarily held during specific curriculum adoption meetings planned by the educational services department or the district's Curriculum Council Committee (CCC,) during school board meetings or during meetings at individual schools organized by school site councils or parent clubs.

School districts must generally select textbooks and other teaching materials from those approved by the state.

SSFUSD encourages public engagement during curriculum adoption cycles.

The district reviews it curriculum and associated textbooks on an ongoing basis, following state standards and adoption cycles.

At the end of this process, staff present recommendations to the school board, which hears public comment and makes a final decision on each adoption.

Individual Concerns

Parental involvement in curriculum concerns is not limited to the aforementioned venues. Individual questions and concerns can be raised and addressed during back-to-school nights, parent-teacher conferences, or other appropriate school-sponsored meetings.
