Superintendent's Message on 2023 COVID-19 Policy 8-14-23 As we have navigated through the past few years of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have developed and refined our practices and protocols for providing safe learning opportunities for our students. Following Governor Newsom’s announcement on February 28, 2023, in which he indicated that the COVID-19 State of Emergency has ended, many of our state, county, and local agencies also discontinued various resources, testing, and other COVID-19-related services.
Superintendent's Message on the Start of the 2023-24 School Year 8-9-23 Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year! I hope you all had a restful and wonderful summer! SSFUSD had the privilege of hosting welcome back events for our school and District leadership team, our new teachers, and most recently, all district staff. There is such a spirit of joy and appreciation for being able to come together to celebrate the marking of a new school year and more specifically, for welcoming back all of your children! In this letter, I wanted to take the opportunity to share with you some exciting and important updates. They include the District’s strategic planning efforts, an invitation for strong community engagement, and our 2023-2024 district priorities.
Under the "C" of Our Calling South San Francisco Unified School District (SSFUSD) Superintendent Dr. Shawnterra Moore welcomed teachers and staff back to school on August 7, 2023, with her first in-person address since 2019.
Superintendent's End of Year Message: 5-24-23 The end of the year is upon us, and it’s been an eventful and remarkable year! The month of May provides us with the opportunity to recognize the many accomplishments of our students and a time to honor the efforts of our teachers and staff! Superintendent's Strategic Planning Update: 3-22-23 It feels as though we just returned from the winter holiday, and yet it is already nearing spring break! I wanted to take this opportunity to provide you with an update on our efforts to develop our long-term strategic plan for the district and, more importantly, express my deepest appreciation for the community’s presence, feedback, and insights on the draft Portrait of a Graduate. Additionally, I wanted to provide an update for the community regarding the bond measure many of you supported!
Superintendent's Update: 1-25-23 As the New Year arrived, so did the severe stormy weather, which resulted in some roof leaks, flooding, and downed trees but due to preventative and proactive measures, the impact was not catastrophic. Thanks to the heroic efforts of our wonderful facilities department, who were responsive, effective, and dedicated, our schools are up and running, and our students are learning. It truly feels like the start of a new year again!
Superintendent's Message on Resumption of Classes: 1-6-23 The health and welfare of our students and employees are one of our district’s top priorities. In the aftermath of the recent storm, I believe the worst has passed for now. I am happy to say that we have weathered the elements and am excited to welcome students and staff back and resume classroom instruction on January 6, 2023! Our facilities team and school leaders have monitored our campuses to identify any impacts associated with the storm and are working to mitigate them.
Superintendent's Message on Cancellation of Classes: 1-5-23 According to the National Weather Service, a major storm is expected to hit the San Francisco Bay Area at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, January 4. Since the health and safety of our community is a top priority, SSFUSD will be canceling all after school athletic and extracurricular programs on Wednesday, January 4, and we are highly encouraging all parents to pick your children up as close to dismissal time as possible.
Superintendent's Message on New Strategic Planning Process I wanted to take a moment to recognize our community for your commitment, engagement, and on-going support. I am in awe for the ways our community is present, engaged, supportive, communicative and collaborative. We cannot experience educational success for our students without your strong partnership and presence, and I remain deeply grateful to work in this amazing community.
