Happy Earth Day! Earth Day is a time to think about our our impact on the planet and to celebrate our efforts at making it a better place to live. It's in that same spirit of celebration that I want to take this opportunity to highlight the achievements of some of our amazing students.

El Camino High School (ECHS) senior Gabrielle Lai recently received a Central Coast Section (CCS) Scholar-Athlete Scholarship, and ECHS clarinetist Matthew Woo received a full tuition music scholarship to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas

Making an impact on one's community and the world are things that we believe all graduates of South San Francisco Unified School District are capable of, so it's nice to see how some of our students are getting a head start on that through their scholarship.

As educators, every one of you deserve the biggest thanks for your hard work this year and throughout the years. Achievements like the ones above would not be possible without the support of coaches, teachers, administrators, school employees, and staff.

While I'm looking forward to our traditional educator appreciation events in May, I'm happy we were able to kick things off a little earlier last week by distributing gift cards to all of you. I hope you've all had an opportunity to pick one up!

Last month, our Measure T citizens bond oversight committee (CBOC) welcomed a new member: Vishal Patel from Southern Hospitality Services and Akshar Development Inc. in South San Francisco. Mr. Patel replaces a former committee member, who stepped down in December.

Also during our April 18 facilities subcommittee meeting, we received an update about the bond program. Earlier this fall, we brought in consulting firm Kathleen Moore & Associates to survey principals, teachers, school employees, and district office staff about the physical infrastructure they believe can best support a school's educational program. These specifications can help us create standards for the classrooms and other facilities at our elementary, middle, and high schools.

Please visit the following web page for more information about how we are prioritizing the construction projects occurring under the Measure T bond program:
