Public Comments

Unless otherwise indicated on individual agendas, the South San Francisco Unified School District (SSFUSD) board of trustees meets at 7:00 PM at the Baden High School gym.

The SSFUSD board of trustees may not act upon or discuss any public comments, unless those public comments are placed on the agenda at a subsequent meeting, except under limited circumstances as permitted by law. It is the policy of the SSFUSD board of trustees to refer matters raised in this forum to staff for further examination and/or action where appropriate.

Each speaker is limited to three (3) minutes. For written comments, each speaker is limited to 400 words or approximately 2,300 characters, which is equivalent to three minutes. The school board’s executive assistant will keep the time and advise the speaker when there are 30 seconds left and again when time is up. We ask all speakers to keep within the time limits.

Instructions for Remote Meeting Registration

In light of the March 16, 2020, Shelter-in-Place Order for San Mateo County, the SSFUSD school board will use Zoom video conferencing technology to conduct its meetings remotely.

This decision is consistent with Governor Newsom’s Executive Orders N-35-20 and N-29-20, which relaxed some requirements of the Brown Act and supports teleconferencing as a way to participate in public meetings.

Instructions for Remote Comments

There are two ways that members of the public may provide comments during a remote school board meeting:

  • Submit Comments in Advance

E-mail comments in advance of the meeting by completing the appropriate form on the board calendar page. All comments sent in advance of the meeting will be shared with the SSFUSD school board.

  • Provide Comments in Real Time During a Remote Meeting

Use the “Raise Hand” feature in Zoom.

    • For desktops/laptops, click the "Raise Hand” button in the lower right hand corner of the screen. Click the same button now labeled “Lower Hand” to lower your hand.

    • For mobile devices, tap “Raise Hand” in the lower left had corner of the screen. The hand icon will turn blue, and the text below will change to "Lower Hand". Click “Lower Hand” to lower your hand.

    • Press *9 to raise your hand when participating by telephone.

Speakers must raise their hands during Agenda Item L, the “Communications” portion of the meeting, in order to comment on topics that are not on the agenda.

To comment on specific agenda items, speakers must use the “Raise Hand” feature immediately preceding the item on which they wish to comment.

Once your hand is raised, please wait to be acknowledged by the board president or designee, who will call on speakers.

Speakers will be unmuted when called upon. After the allotted time, speakers will be muted. Pre-submitted questions will be read by the board president or a designee after the live comments.
