Landed - Home Buying Support

South San Francisco Unified School District (SSFUSD) has teamed up with Landed, a company working to help educators build financial security and achieve homeownership. Landed has helped over 1,250 essential professionals purchase a home with their shared equity down payment program.

Landed can provide up to 15% of the home's purchase price, up to $120,000. In exchange, homebuyers will share any gain or loss in their home's market value when they sell or refinance. There are no monthly payments on the support. This program is open to all employees—teachers, staff, and administrators—who work in public education for at least 20 hours/week and can contribute at least a 5% down payment. You do not need to be a first-time homebuyer to participate.

More information about Landed:
  • Eligibility: All SSFUSD employees who work 20+ hours per week are eligible. When purchasing a home with Landed, homebuyers must commit to staying with their current employer for 2 years.
  • Exiting the partnership: Participants have 30 years to end the partnership with Landed through sale, buying out the Landed investment directly, or by refinancing. Participants pay back Landed’s original investment plus or minus a share of the gain or loss in the home's market value.
  • Qualification: Participants must qualify for a primary mortgage with one of Landed’s participating lenders. To qualify, participants must be able to contribute at least 5% toward the down payment.

Landed hosts weekly online information sessions for all employees interested in learning more about Landed’s down payment program and other homebuying resources. Interested participants can RSVP here, or contact [email protected] with questions.

Landed has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, NPR, and San Jose Mercury News.
